5 Camping Essentials For The Stylish Chick

This past weekend my boyfriend, dog and I went on a camping trip to Ohiopyle State Park, Pennsylvania. And boy, was it a trip for the books (and not in a good way)! Our “fall foliage” adventure, quickly turned into a winter weather camping trip when the forecast transformed from partly cloudy to thunderstorms with a chance of snow. That’s right… SNOW!

But other than the horrendous weather, we ended up having a pretty fun time bundled up together in the tent. I am not exactly the “camping type”, but I can tell you that there are a few essentials that made my weekend a bit easier and kept me a ‘happier camper’ (hehe… literally). Now, I am by no means saying that you can go out in the wilderness with just these five items and have a successful camping weekend (obviously). But if you’re like me there are three main aspects of my life that keep me a happy girl- my hygiene, my style, and my everyday (essential) habits.

So let’s get started with the hygiene items:

1. Wet Wipes

These suckers are the best for camping trips when showers or just running water in general are not available and bathing is not an option. Most camping trips involve some type of physical activity (i.e. hiking) or at least lounging by a camp fire- either one makes you smell pretty ripe! We did a hike that was only supposed to be 3.5 miles…. and turned into 10 miles instead. So you can only imagine how we smelled returning to camp. The baby wipes SAVED me. Wipe yourself down and you’ll feel as fresh as a daisy…. Or at least as fresh as you can feel while camping with no running water. Did I mention that baby wipes also remove make really well??? And I found some cool biodegradable wipes on Amazon! But Pampers will work just as well.

2. Dry Shampoo

I wash my hair every day. I know, I know- some people may say that this is excessive, but my hair is fuller and has more body when it’s freshly washed and dried. Obviously, this wasn’t an available option this weekend for me. BUT even if you don’t wash your hair every day, chances are you will be cozying up next to a camp fire and will inevitable be enveloped in a cloud of smoke. You know as well as I do that your hair holds onto that smoky smell like white on rice (that’s how that saying goes, right?). Well Garnier Fructis’ Dry Shampoo with Volume Extend Instant Bodifier will, not only, help with the smoke smell, but it will also add some great body back into your hair even when you’re in the middle of the woods.

Now for a bit of style!

3. Puff-ball Hat and Warm Boots

Two staple style pieces to take with you are a cute little fuzzball hate and some boots with da furrrrr! These are so great because they can go with any jackets, coats, sweaters, and warm leggings that you decide to bring with you- they can be your statement pieces. I got my hat from REI and my boots are Timberland. But Sorel woman’s winter boots are also great and super stylish as well.

4. Unbreakable Wine/Beer Glasses

Seriously… This is not an add and these things are amazing! You can get them on Amazon in a set of 6 for $19.99. They’re super easy to clean (just pour some water on them) and, because they can squish, you can literally shove them anywhere (ie.. into your backpack so you can have a nice (silicone) glass of wine at the top of that mountain that you just climbed. Perrrrrrfect!

5. Portable Coffee Maker

I found this Melitta single cup brewer for $7 at our local grocery store right before we headed out on our adventure. It comes with filters and a coffee cup to drain that delicious brew into. It is absolutely perfect to wake up to when you stick your head out of the tent into the chilly air in the morning AND when you need to warm your body up in the evening.
